Excuses, excuses, excuses…. I have lots of them. I like to call them rationales instead, but the reality is that they are excuses. Lame ones at that. I have not been faithful in these posts in the last week as I said I would be and offer this time as a sacrifice during Lent. Instead, I have excuses. Excuses such as being tired, not having enough time to get everything done, of forgetting until I was already in bed, and so many more. But, the reality is that they are excuses.
In Mathew 5:20+,
“Jesus said to his disciples:
“I tell you,
unless your righteousness surpasses that
of the scribes and Pharisees,
you will not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.”
Through my excuses, I am probably running par with the Pharisees and scribes. I am not outright sinning by not taking the time each day to read and then write my reflections down, but I sure am not getting to the heart of this Lenten sacrifice. Much of the way that the scribes and Pharisees went about living out their faith. with basic rules but without understanding the heart and soul of the rules.
So, along those lines, I need to say: “I’M BAAAACCCKKKKKK!!”
